Description: Importance of Mother Language – English passage highlighting the values of mother tongue for students.
Summary: Mother language is the true medium of our thoughts and identity. Learning foreign languages is important, but respecting our mother tongue is our duty.
Passage:
Considering one’s mother language as inferior is a mistake. We need to live and move with the world; hence learning other languages is necessary. Yet, it is also very important to recognize the significance of our mother tongue. One may be an expert in English language and literature, but can never become Shakespeare or Milton. An Englishman may be a scholar of Hindi language and literature, but can never be Sur or Tulsidas. We can write great books in our mother language. Our schools are now focusing on Indian languages. Acquiring good knowledge of our mother tongue is our responsibility.
